Back pain is one very difficult issue to deal with and many times we go to the doctors to get medicated to deal with the pain but not always the cause of the pain.

A whopping eight out of ten people in Australia alone will have to deal with back issues at some point in their lifetime and this is among the younger population of people being less than 60 years of age.

What causes back pain in many instances is very poor posture as well as improper sitting and sleeping techniques.

A lot of people can make changes to avoid injuring their back and developing back pain by adjusting their posture and seeking help from their physician but what if you can do simple reflexology exercises at home to help alleviate back pain?

Would you try them out? Luckily, there is one!

Reflexology is a technique that uses the aid of pressure points all over the body to relieve stress, alleviate pain and many other things as well.

Foot reflexology is the same concept it is just that the focus is on the feet and you use then hands to gently apply pressure to these points to relieve pain.

Let's look at 5 very simple steps using foot reflexology that can help to control back pain from your own home.

#1 Thumb Walking the Spine

This exercise releases pressure within the spine. Using the flat base of flesh on the thumb right by the thumb nail to apply pressure.

Hold whichever foot you feel to do first firmly in your hand with the instep of your foot facing you.

With both thumbs starting from the tip of the big toe, move the thumbs from an outward to inward motion going down along the side of the foot, passing the instep to the heel and them back up to the big toe.

This represents the spine. Be sure to apply gentle pressure when doing so.

#2 Massaging the Sciatic Nerve

The sciatic nerve is responsible for the pain you feel that may run from the back down into your legs.

The reflex point of this nerve can be found on the inner side of the foot below the ankle bone. Using the thumbs, apply pressure gently to this area in an inward to outward motion.

#3 Ball of Your Feet

The area right behind the toes have reflex points connected to the shoulders and upper back, rubbing these areas can relieve upper back pain.

Apply pressure with the padded part of your thumbs just below the joints of your toes.

Towards the pinky toe is for shoulders and right in the middle is for upper back.

Applying pressure to the joints on the top of your feet also helps to relieve back pain just apply a little less pressure than you would on the bottom of the foot.

#4 Sitting Pressure Point

Sitting with your back flat against a surface, bring one leg in your lap.

Feel for the joint between the big toe and the second toe, apply gentle pressure for a minute to the joint there to relieve lower back pain.

#5 Thumb Walking

In the same sitting position as the previous step, bring on leg into your lap, use the thumb to apply pressure to the center of the foot, halfway between the toes and the heel.

CONCLUSION

The back is a rather sensitive place because it involves most if not all movement in the body and when it aches it does make life very difficult to cope with.
