Massage chairs are a popular way of reaping the health benefits of massage therapy at home. But there's a limit to the amount of time you should spend on a massage chair.

How often should you use a massage chair? Let's take a look.

Having Too Much of a Good Thing

Massage chairs are best used in short bursts, up to a maximum of around 15 minutes.

This should be more than enough to benefit your well-being, relax all the muscles in your neck and back, and for your body to experience all the main benefits of the massage.

The reason for this 15-minute time limit is that too much massaging can directly aggravate existing injuries or other pain problems - or create entirely new injuries by itself. It can also stress the nervous system unnecessarily.

Don't be alarmed! Massage chairs are perfectly safe to use and are highly beneficial for your health when used a little at a time.

It's when people sit in them for hours on end that problems occur.

If you really feel like you need more massage time, take 15 minutes in the chair before going to do something else and returning. But generally, you should take a nice break between massages to make sure you don't overdo it.

How Often Should You Use a Massage Chair?

The question "How often should you use a massage chair?" is quite commonly asked by our customers. The short answer is - in moderation.

You should use your massage chair for 3 or 4 times a week at most, remembering to keep your sessions down to 15 minutes. This should be more than enough time to provide a relaxing sensation.

You shouldn't be sitting in the chair (while it's on) while you're watching television in the evening or reading a book. 

To help you keep an eye on the time and to limit usage, many models have built-in timers which will shut off the system after 15 minutes.

This is in place to stop you over-using the chair and hurting yourself. You can turn the chair back on once the timer goes off, ready for another user, but we recommend that you don't reset the timer to enjoy another session yourself.

Keep the sessions short and space them out as a special treat for yourself after a tiring day at work.
