Lower Left Back Pain: The Causes

Posted by Ho on 01-Feb-2018 20:00:00

If you're one of the millions of people worldwide that experiences back pain, you already know how debilitating it can be. It can feel like a sharp needle is being jabbed into your back.

But what you don't know is how serious of an issue lower left back pain can be.

Back pain, particularly in the lower left region, is often more than a menace. Do you need to see a specialist immediately?

Read on to find out the causes of lower back pain and what you can do about it.

Kidney Stones

Kidney stones bring a pain that can only be described as excruciating. Some have even gone as far as to compare it to childbirth.

Worse, while it certainly hurts on the way out, it hurts internally, as well. If you're suffering from a kidney stone, you'll likely feel the stone in your body.

A sharp, throbbing pain in the lower back is common and is often a sign that the stone is moving from your kidney to the bladder.

However, it isn't always easy to tell whether or not you're suffering from a kidney stone. Watch out for sudden nausea, as well as bloody urine.

Get in touch with a specialist or a hospital if you believe you're suffering from a kidney stone.

Kidney Infection

By now, you're probably noticing a theme. Kidney stones aren't the only cause of lower left back pain involving the kidney. On the contrary, a dull, constant pain may be the sign of a kidney infection.

There are a variety of causes of a kidney infection, from E. Coli to rarer, blood-borne diseases. Just about anyone can suffer from a kidney infection, but the good news is they're quite treatable.

With proper medication and a bit of relaxation, you'll be back to feeling your best in no time.

Reproductive Issues

Both genders are at risk of lower left back pain, particularly due to issues with the genitals.

Men, for instance, are likely to experience testicular torsion. This extreme pain causes an overwhelming sense of pain from the testicles to the stomach.

Women, on the other hand, are far less lucky. Back pain can be a sign of anything from a twisted ovary to a gynecological infection to a cyst.

Of course, symptoms of back pain aren't always caused by disease or reproductive issues. Sometimes they're caused by that extra long day at work or that massive to-do list.

We tend to carry our stress on our shoulders and back. And when we feel stressed or anxious, we tend to slouch, adding extra pressure to the back and spine.

Sometimes the cure for lower left back pain is something as simple as a gentle massage and awareness of one's posture.
