cause of neck pain

Do you find yourself reaching for your neck a lot? Does every turn of your head lead to pain?

That constant jabbing or rickety feeling haunts you daily. And no amount of sleep or medicine is helping.

You might be suffering from neck pain.

It's a major musculoskeletal disorder that a lot of adults experience. The cause of neck pain could be due to a lot of factors.

But that's what we're here to discuss today. Ready to find out everything you need to know about the pain you're experiencing?

Read on to get the facts!

What Is the Cause of Neck Pain?

Unfortunately, neck pain isn't one of those conditions that stem from one factor. A multitude of causes could be to blame. Let's take a look at a few of them.

Rare Conditions

Sometimes, a disease or a syndrome could be to blame. If your neck pain is so severe that you feel you need to see a doctor, you could be suffering from one of these conditions:

  • Fibromyalgia
  • Thoracic outlet syndrome
  • Lyme disease
  • Eagle syndrome
  • Crowned dens syndrome

All of these reside near or in the neck itself. If you're experiencing a stiff neck along with other symptoms, it's best to consult a doctor.

Sleep Position

Let's say you took an early morning flight somewhere and you're tired. Your only options are to fall asleep or force yourself to stay awake.

Obviously, no one would do the latter. So, you fall asleep.

You have your head rested against the window, elongating your neck. You stay in that position for a couple of hours.

Once the flight lands, you feel a "crick" in your neck. Unusual sleep positions may be the cause of neck pain.

The way our necks are designed is to not be elongated. So when we're looking upwards to watch the stars or even fireworks, forcing your neck to stay in those positions can cause pain.

Smartphone Usage

Believe it or not, too much time scrolling through Facebook could be causing you pain. Young adults spend about a third of their lives on their phones.

No wonder a lot of us suffer from neck pain.

One may experience whiplash after a car accident. A hit from behind causes your head to sling forward and back, like a whip.

You might gain a headache or numbness because of it also.

We all know too much sitting is a bad thing. Especially when it comes to an office setting.

If you have no choice but to plant yourself in a chair all day long, that could be the cause of your pain. Sitting uncomfortably for hours on end not only puts a strain on your back but your neck as well.

Contact sports like football and rugby can get extremely physical. A hard push to the ground could cause your neck to strain.

That's why if you experience a sting-like feeling, you end up with neck pain.

Wrapping Up

A lot could be to blame for neck pain. But knowing which symptoms are more severe could save you a lot of time not writhing in pain.
